LED light therapy has become so popular in the last few years, and more and more people are incorporating it into their skincare routines. So, what is it? What does it do? How much is a session? Lets dive a bit deeper into it.
Sometimes LED light therapy can be mistaken for tanning machines. THIS IS NOT THE CASE! LED light therapy doesn’t use ultraviolet light (used in tanning beds). It uses red and near-infrared light to fight signs of aging, evening out skin tones, redresses inflammation, speeds up the bodies healing cycle by 300 percent, and significantly helps with acne because of its ability to kill bacteria. A lightbulb that emits red and near-infrared light is placed behind small panels, and then is positioned a few inches from your face. When the lights are shining on you, its fuelling the cells in our dermis and causing them to produce higher levels of collagen and elastin.
So, whats the science behind LED light therapy? In the 80s, NASA did a study researching how certain infrared light waves could stimulate energy in living things (plants and humans). They used this to help grow plants on space shuttle missions. Now, after years of research the FDA has approved light therapy for cancer patients, sports medicine, and the beauty industry!
Its common for LED light therapy to be apart of my facials. Its a twenty minute session (and is a bit bright at first, but your eyes do adjust and they are protected with goggles. Most of my clients fall asleep while the machine is on, its soon relaxing!
How much is LED light therapy? This depends on where you are located and varies from clinic to clinic. At my clinic, we charge $50 per LED light session. It can be used during any facial, but is already incorporated into the SaltFacial as well as the Fire & Ice Facial. We also carry at-home LED light therapy shields so that you are able to get the benefits of LED light therapy at home. I recommend using LED light therapy 1-3 times a week. If budget, (and time) doesn’t allow for you to go to the clinic that often, the at-home shields are so convenient and the best option for you! I use mine whenever I’m on the couch, replying to emails, laying in bed, and I love it! We retail the shields for $200 and they are rechargeable, so its a great investment!
Yes, LED light therapy ACTUALLY works. It is so fascinating for me to study different skin treatments and devices, and how they benefit our skin. I highly recommend talking to your Esthetician or Dermatologist to see if LED light would be beneficial for you (but honestly its beneficial for almost everyone).
As always, if you have any questions about what I talked about, send me a message! I love to help show you all the cool devices and treatments that I can offer for your skin ❤
Until next time,
